White maine Coons – BAER Brainstem Auditory Evoked Response ( Hearing ability )

You may have heard that some all white cats can be partly or wholly deaf.

This applies mainly to domestic cats (moggies)  and of those  mostly to male cats with blue eyes.

Selective breeding in the Maine Coon cat has eliminated any deaf cats out of breeding programmes. It can occur naturally but is now very rare in this breed.

Here at Anglezarke MCs I have three generations of white cats –  I have had each one tested at a BAER facility and have the confirmation paperwork to state that all three breeding queens are fully hearing.

NB:   I have had a blue eyed kitten born here (2022) – Anglezarke Katya ( now Mariska)

she was neutered and is a much loved pet but I also had her hearing tested, just to be sure – and she was fully hearing.
